Musician, business owner, teacher, entrepreneur, traveler - Oliver Garner truly does it all! However, his most fulfilling title is the one he has at New Horizons: our Peer Recovery Coach and Facilitator of Substance Use Programs.

Oliver has been living in long-term recovery for 15 years now. Before that, he spent 10 years with a cocaine dependency that he described as a "mental prison." He started his recovery journey by leaning fully into his faith and converting his energy from being self-serving to serving others.

"Recovery allowed me to expand my life," Oliver says. "It illuminated everything."

Originally from Chicago, Oliver spent years traveling the world before settling down here in Columbus. He found his way to Connections, our peer-led recovery hangout center, after meeting Program Director Ada Thomas at his church. Oliver has been at Connections for over 2 years now where he has witnessed and assisted in many recovery journeys of the individuals we serve.

"It's such a pleasure the see the other sides of peoples' lives after recovery," Oliver says.

We are so thankful to have Oliver on our team as he brings so much guidance and positive energy to our Connections location - and we are so proud of how far he's come in his own recovery journey.
