Amanda's Testimony

Today's #TestimonialTuesday is on Amanda, one of our Journey to Recovery graduates

Amanda is the Volunteer Coordinator at Feeding the Valley Food Bank, an organization she has served at for almost 6 years now. Although Amanda loves her career, it is not one she ever saw herself doing. Years ago, she was on the path to becoming a pharmacy technician when she developed a substance use dependency and everything in her life changed.

Coping with family issues, Amanda began experimenting with substances as a teenager. Later on as a single mother in her 20s, Amanda's substance use progressed from recreational to every day use. This eventually led to her to losing her job and custody of her children.

Amanda was arrested and accepted into the Muscogee County Family Drug Court program, which placed her into our Journey to Recovery program. After graduating from Journey, she was placed into one of our Crisis Respite Apartments to help her transition back into society. One of her favorite memories throughout her treatment was the pride she felt when her family visited her and saw her progress.

Today, Amanda has mended relationships with her loved ones, including her children, who she credits as being the reason she kept going. She also has a meaningful career that she loves and is engaged to be married in the next couple of months. Amanda's grandchildren have never known her as someone struggling with substance use, but only as a stable grandmother who loves to spoil them.

"My purpose is my family," Amanda says. "And now I love myself, too."

We are so proud of Amanda and all the success she has had in her life! To learn more about Journey to Recovery, call us at 706-561-5535.
